I am delighted that we have strengthened our connection to Curtin University and we share a common heritage, in terms of how our universities have developed.

Our experiences and expertise in research really complement each other, and we can now use that to address local and global priorities, whether it is climate change or national security. We also share a vision to develop global citizens, who understand and appreciate different contexts and cultures and can use their experiences as they go into the world of work. This partnership unites us behind those shared ambitions and I am excited to see its expansion and success in the short and long-term.鈥

Provost of Curtin University
Despite being separated geographically by more than 9,000 miles, the universities have enjoyed a close friendship since the 1980s. That began with a staff exchange between two Geography lecturers, and it then developed into a formal student-exchange that ran through the 1990s.
Alongside that is a research and teaching partnership that continues to this day, and is exploring some of the major challenges facing societies all over the world, including: the transition to renewable energy; environmental sustainability and policy; the health of the ocean and coasts; and rural and regional development.
The universities also have complementary teaching programmes and share a deep commitment to providing outstanding student experiences and to ensuring that graduates leave with the skills and knowledge to enhance their employability, and succeed in their careers.
They also have a commitment to sharing their expertise globally 鈥 with both universities having a presence or partnerships in countries including Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka 鈥 and hope to work together on a range of international teaching programmes.
