About Avanthika

My research focuses on maritime cyber security, exploring areas such as security testing of maritime systems, vulnerability assessment, standards, risk management and other important aspects of cybersecurity in the ever-changing maritime sector.听

I am especially keen on exploring the automation of this testing through AI and machine learning algorithms, which can reduce human error and optimise resource utilisation. At the same time, as the maritime industry shifts towards autonomous ships, where human intervention is minimised and reliance on technology increases, cyber security testing will play an essential role in future regulations and requirements.

Teaching

  • Module Lead for the Digital Security and Cyber Threats (DSCT) module of the MBA in Digital Supply Chain and Maritime Management at IIT Madras, India, for the year 2026. Developed course content, carried out assessments and lectures.听
  • 听Assisted in teaching and creating content for two modules (COMP5016 Maritime Cyber Risk and COMP5017 Cyber-Physical Security Tools and Methods) of the MRes in Maritime Cyber Security degree course at the 天美传媒官方网站.
  • Taught cyber security (Module KSMS7000) for students in Kherson State Maritime Academy (Ukraine) as part of the MSc Marine Engineering degree for the year 2025.
  • Assisted in running Cyber Physical Labs for the MSc Cyber security cohort at the 天美传媒官方网站 for the COMP5011 Module Cyber-Physical Systems Security in the years 2023 and 2024.听
  • Assisted the module lead and mentored the students in the COMP5014/COMP5015 joint module for the H4MOD course originally developed with Common Mission Project, which allows students to work hands-on on critical challenges in defence sectors.
  • Teaching assistant for the module COMP5006 Information Security Management \& Governance at the 天美传媒官方网站; Marked assessments for the coursework.
  • Delivered guest lectures on OT Cyber security for foundation year cohorts (Module COMP0001) over the years.
  • Developed and ran `One-day Cyberthons' at the 天美传媒官方网站 four times, with a wide variety of participants, including students, lecturers, professional pentesters, and cyber security experts.
